Exploration of a Potential Dog-Friendly Bathing Area in Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Yesterday, the Santa Cruz City Council announced that it is exploring the feasibility of establishing the city’s first designated bathing area where dogs are permitted to enter and swim. This decision comes following a survey revealing that 82% of residents desire a beach where pets are welcome, with 56% specifically favouring Valleseco as the location. These insights were gathered as part of surveys conducted on recycling practices and beach maintenance during the “Tu lata al yellow” campaign.

Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez stated, “Our city has always prided itself on being animal-friendly. Therefore, we will assess this proposal to enhance the recreational opportunities for citizens who own dogs.” Animal Welfare Councillor, Carlos Tarife, mentioned, “The council has been evaluating various options for some time now.” He went on to explain, “The next phase will involve engaging the community in a participatory process to determine the preferences of pet owners.”
