Diving in Tenerife

Scuba diving: one of the best things to do in Tenerife. There are a number of schools that can teach you and provide the equipment, located especially in the south and west of the island - in places like Costa del Silencio, Los Cristianos and Puerto Santiago.

Tenerife offers some amazing volcanic rock formations with some small caverns swim through’s and plenty of marine life. When scuba diving in Tenerife, you can regularly see Bream, Sea Bass, Wrasse, Barracuda, Amber jacks, Octopus, Moral Eel to name just a few, also some of the biggest Stingrays in Tenerife waters, which are very used to scuba divers and come in quite close (Gentle giants).

The water around the Canaries is warmed by the Gulf Stream flowing down from the north. Temperature ranges from 19⁰C in February and March through to 24⁰C in September and October.

When scuba diving in Tenerife, on occasions you can also get the local Teneriffe Bottle Nose Dolphins following the dive boats in Los Gigantes, they are amazing to see, especially when accompanied by the shoals of whales in our local Tenerife waters.

Due to the volcanic formation of the island there are many striking geological features to enjoy, from towering columns of basalt rock (think: Ireland’s Giant’s Causeway) to caves and swim-throughs formed by rapidly cooling lava or pockets of gas.
Other areas provide sheltered sandy bottoms in which we may enjoy diving with turtles, giant stingrays and Angel Sharks – a species which is globally under significant threat but which we are lucky enough to see frequently in our waters.
